The RLSF inaugural Ascot Day was held on Saturday 18th June 2016 and attended by 77 guests at a lunch event held at the Hockey Club, Footes Lane.
Lorraine Lane, from In Any Event, beautifully themed the tables with purple & gold Ascot colours and centerpieces of vintages teapots, flowers and hats. With added support from Event Services and Island AV who supplied the Big Screens and PA system, the room transformation was complete.
The afternoon started with a Pimm’s Reception, kindly sponsored by SPF Private Clients, enjoyed out on the balcony in glorious sunshine and accompanied by the chilled out jazz sounds from our guest saxophonist, Colin Falla.
The compere for the day, Liam McKenna, did a wonderful job of keeping everyone entertained with Andy Orme and his team from the Hockey Club in charge of looking after all our guests throughout the afternoon.
A delicious three course menu was served up by master chefs Graham Thoume & Andy Graham who had started their preparations for the hog roast at the crack of dawn. They were ably supported by Laura Graham who provided some fabulous horsey themed cupcakes and a fantastic team of waiting staff, led by Judy Snell & Cate Chescoe, from ABN Amro who had generously sponsored the catering at the event.
During lunch, guests had the chance to enter the sweepstake and buy a horse running in any of the 6 races from the final day of racing at Ascot. Cash prizes went to the winning horse in each race and there was also a special award prize of a Pony Inn voucher kindly donated by Jenny Nicolle who also sponsored the champagne table prizes. Sam & Marion Marsh were the successful bidders for an amazing 3 night 2017 stay in boutique self-catering accommodation, Mr Hesters, Sark which was generously donated by Jess Hester.
Boscher Bookmakers attended the event enabling the guests to place their own live bets on the day with varying degrees of success…!! The well-deserved title of Best Dressed Lady went to Amanda Groves with Steve Turvey winning the award for Best Dressed Gent.
Karen New, a Trustee from the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation, said “thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, guests and bidders, fundraising on the day exceeded £4,000, far in excess of our predictions. These funds raised will enable us to continue to help support many young people participate in sport here in Guernsey”.
Many thanks must go to the sponsors and organisers, along with all our guests for attending this function and helping us achieve this amazing result. A selection of the photographs can be viewed via our Facebook page below.
